About MacPip
MacPip is a free directory and daily launch site for Mac apps. A person checks apps by hand, and each checked app shows a blue tick and a dated report. Anyone can list a Mac app for free, and nobody can buy a place in the order.
Who makes it
MacPip is made by Justinas Rolando, who also makes the Mac app Clacky. Clacky is listed here too, and we say so, because you should know. Say hi on X or at hello@macpip.com.
How checking works
- A maker submits an app, or we add one ourselves.
- For downloads, we confirm the Developer ID signature and Apple notarization on a downloaded copy. We use Apple's own tools for this:
codesign, spctlandstapler. - We compare the screenshots with the real app.
- A person opens the app to see that it does what it says.
- The app gets a blue tick and a dated report on its page. We check again when a maker sends a new version.
If an app does not pass, the maker sees the reason on a status page and can fix it.
What the blue tick does not mean
It does not mean an app is guaranteed safe, or that we recommend it above others. It means a person looked at it on that date. Read how to tell if a Mac app is safe for what these checks can and cannot show.
Where we are today
We are new. 11 apps are live, and 0 have finished a hand check. Apps still waiting say Check pending. Our traffic is public.
How MacPip makes money
Sponsors pay for one separate row, from $19 a week, and it always says Sponsored. Sponsors cannot pay to change the order or skip the check. Listing stays free. Our rules are short enough to read.
What MacPip is not
It has nothing to do with pip, the Python package tool. It is not affiliated with Apple. We do not host downloads, so "Visit website" takes you to the maker's own page.
